Social and Service: Why We're Service

Gamma Sigma Sigma is a unique sorority. Its purpose is to gather in the spirit of helping others. The first step toward becoming a member of Gamma Sigma Sigma is deciding to become a member‐in‐training. The organization does not choose who may or may not be members. Instead, students may decide to make Gamma Sigma Sigma their organization of choice.

Selectivity of members and hazing has been prohibited by Gamma Sigma Sigma since its foundation. It is Gamma Sigma Sigma's no selectivity policy which is the difference between Gamma Sigma Sigma and social organizations.

The College Pan-Hellenic is composed of members of all the eligible sororities and fraternities on its campus. The delegates from chapters of these sororities and fraternities form the College Pan-Hellenic Council, which is responsible for local Pan-Hellenic operation in accordance with National policies and procedures.

Gamma Sigma Sigma’s prohibits affiliation with the National Pan-Hellenic Conference. Pan-Hellenic membership involves the question of adherence to the basic principles on which Gamma Sigma Sigma has been founded. Although some chapters may be non-voting members of their local Pan-Hellenic Council in order to meet student organization requirements for sororities, no GSS chapter may become a regular member of the local Pan-Hellenic Council.

The variety of personalities and talents of GSS members has built an organization with vision and creativity, strong enough to withstand some difficult times and flexible enough to change and grow. The commitment to service, open membership and opportunities to learn and grow set Gamma Sigma Sigma apart from the social sororities and fraternities. Our membership makes us diversified and unique ‑ the essence of Gamma Sigma Sigma.
