GSS Facts

Gamma Sigma Sigma has more than 70 chapters and colonies throughout the United States.

In 2007, Gamma Sigma Sigma chapters reported an average of 1700 hours provided to service on campus and in the community.

Gamma Sigma Sigma ended 2007 averaging 35 members per collegiate chapter.

National Service Partners for the organization include: March of Dimes, American Cancer Society, American Red Cross, Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, and Mothers Against Drunk Driving.

Gamma Sigma Sigma members choose to be members—chapters are not selective.

The national requirements of membership include: good standing in the university/college, completion of the membership-in-training period, payment of annual national dues and travel pool, and minimum 10-20 service hours completed during the membership-in-training period.

In 2005, after Hurricane Katrina, 24 chapters averaged 100 hours of service through Gulf Coast clean-ups, food and clothing collections, fundraising efforts, and some members hosted Katrina victims in their homes.

Every chapter of the organization provided service or fundraising efforts for the American Cancer Society during the last biennium, 2005-2007.

Eight districts comprise the national organization. As the number of chapters grows new districts are added.

Gamma Sigma Sigma holds Leadership Conferences, Spirit Days, and the National Convention to encourage leadership and membership development.

Former First Lady Barbara Bush and Astronaut Mae Jamison are national honorary members.
