The Membership of Gamma Sigma Sigma

Our Membership

Membership in Gamma Sigma Sigma provides the opportunity to:

  • Express your individual desire to volunteer and make a difference as an integral part of
    an established, supportive network.

  • Interact with individuals and groups locally and across the country who share similar
    interests, ideals and goals.

  • Discuss and resolve common issues concerning membership recruitment, leadership
    opportunities and service project ideas.

  • Benefit from the expertise of specialists in service work and project development.

  • Participate in National Convention and regional conferences where members experience
helpful workshops and exchange ideas for improvement and expansion to school,
    community and nation.

  • Work with many national volunteer organizations with whom Gamma Sigma Sigma has
    developed associations.

Service groups already established on college and university campuses are invited to apply for affiliation with Gamma
Sigma Sigma.

Individual students who have no affiliation with an established service group may wish to organize such an interest group
on campus. With the guidance of the National Board of Directors, such groups may become colonies and, eventually,
chapters of Gamma Sigma Sigma. For more information on how your group can petition for membership, contact the National Membership Director at membership@gammasigmasigma.org

Becoming a Member

Any individual who wishes to serve others may become a member of Gamma Sigma Sigma following a few guidelines,
as set forth by the National Convention, chapter and academic institution.

These include, but are not limited to:

  • To be a duly enrolled student in academic good standing

  • To express a desire to serve and to become a member of Gamma Sigma Sigma

  • To fulfill the requirements set by the organization and institution

Anyone can become a member of Gamma Sigma Sigma.  Gamma Sigma Sigma does not discriminate or tolerate
hazing in any form. Gamma Sigma Sigma accepts individuals who are members of other organizations,
including social sororities, into its membership.

Membership in a collegiate colony or chapter of Gamma Sigma Sigma is attained by pledging to serve. The
requirements for membership are set by each chapter, within guidelines set by the national organization. These tasks
are in direct relationship to both chapter and national service programs. Pledges are not required to perform personal
services for members, or any activity that can be construed as hazing.

Alumni chapters incorporate members who have separated honorably from their collegiate chapters into groups within
their geographic area, and continue to serve their communities and the sorority as they develop careers and families.

Additionally, a specific number of individuals who have never been collegiate members of Gamma Sigma Sigma, may be
accepted into alumni chapters as “auxiliary members.”  After a specified amount of time, auxiliary members may become full members of the organization, with all rights and privileges.

Graduate members of the sorority living in areas where no alumni chapter exists may continue to serve the organization
as an individual alumni-at-large or, if other alumni live nearby, may choose to start a new alumni chapter.

For more information on any form of Gamma Sigma Sigma membership, please contact the National Membership Director
at membership@gammasigmasigma.org.
