Bi-Yearly Service Project:  Comfort Pillows

The Cherry Blossom Alums have voted to make comfort pillows for cancer patients as their second project for 2005.  See instructions HERE (PDF FILE).  We are in talks with a number of DC-area hospitals as an outlet to donate our finished products!

UPDATE:  Group Service Project:  OI Wine and Cheese

Gamma Sigma Sigma, Cherry Blossom Alums volunteered for the OI Foundation in their planning and execution of the "Fine Wines, Strong Bones:  a benefit supporting people with OI and their families,” held May 5, 2005.  To find out about OI, click here. (goes to description below)  See PICTURES of the event (on CD I sent you).  Sisters assisted OIF in raising over $3,500.  See the good works OIF does at www.oif.org.

DESCRIPTION:

Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is a genetic disorder characterized by bones that break easily, often from little or no apparent cause.  A
person with OI might cough and break a rib, or roll in their sleep and break a leg.  When a baby is born with OI, his or her parents
must struggle to handle a child in constant pain.  Diapering, dressing, or even the simple act of hugging can result in a broken
bone.  Many people with OI also experience hearing loss, brittle teeth, short stature, skeletal deformities, or respiratory difficulties.  An estimated 20-50,000 people in the United States have OI.

The mission of the Osteogenesis Imperfecta Foundation (OIF) is to improve the quality of life for people with OI through research to
find treatments and a cure, education, awareness and mutual support.

UPDATE:  Relay for Life

The Gamma Sig Cherry Blossom Alums fielded a team for Relay for Life, held June 11-12, 2005 at Winston Churchill HS, Montgomery County, MD.  Sisters participating raised $2,000 for the American Cancer Society.
