Welcome to

The Cherry Blossom Alumni Chapter

of

Gamma Sigma Sigma National Service Sorority

In the summer of 2003, there was an interest in reactivating the Washington D.C. Alumni Chapter of Gamma Sigma Sigma, with the purpose of allowing alums of Gamma Sig living in Virginia, Washington D.C., and Maryland to come together and once again serve as a group.

After holding an informational meeting on September 28, 2003 in Washington, D.C., the group petitioned for reactivation from the national organization. The Washington D.C. Alumnae Chapter was reactivated by Nationals as a colony with the new name "Cherry Blossom" on November 14, 2003.  The colony became a chapter at the 2005 National Convention!

The purpose of the Cherry Blossom Alumni Chapter is to assemble alumni of Gamma Sigma Sigma National Service Sorority in the spirit of service. This colony shall be conducted as a service organization under the provisions of the Bylaws of Gamma Sigma Sigma National Service Sorority.

Amy Eileen Castonguay Memorial Scholarship Application 2005

Introduction

The Cherry Blossom Alumni Chapter of Gamma Sigma Sigma was formed in September 2003, by a group of six Gamma Sigma Sigma Alumni in the Washington, D.C. and surrounding areas who wanted to continue living the traditions and values of their collegiate chapters.  Since then, the sisters have accepted the challenge of forming a new entity, keeping those college traditions and memories close, but morphing into a strong alumni chapter.  Each meeting, service project, social event, email, phone call, vote, and hug bring the members closer together and help them to grow as a sisterhood and as individuals.  The members are grateful for each experience shared throughout college and colonization, but look forward to bigger and better things to come.

We remember how difficult college can be, both mentally and financially.  With this in mind, our colony has created a scholarship open to all collegiate members.  If you are awarded this scholarship, a check covering next year’s national dues will be mailed directly to your chapter.  All members planning to remain active in their collegiate chapter through the entire following academic year are eligible to apply.  Completed applications will be due by June 1st and the winner will be notified by August 31st.

The scholarship is in loving memory of Amy Eileen Castonguay.  She was the beloved infant daughter of one of the Cherry Blossom Alumni Colony’s founding members.

“No one that met my girl will soon forget her.  No one that knew my girl failed to love her.  And no one can ever doubt that Amy was our perfect angel.”
~Jimmy Castonguay, Amy’s father.
