The Coat of Arms:

  • The SHIELD stands for the protection afforded by membership:

MAROON is the color of the shield and represents loyalty

The SCALES stand for equality and justice

integrity and valor

The CHEVRON symbolizes service to humanity

  • Above the shield is the CREST:

Above the torse is a representation of the world within the clouds and two CLASPED HANDS, which represent friendship all over the world

On the SCROLL beneath the shield appears the name of Gamma Sigma Sigma in Greek. The scroll means that one must prepare a sign of prudence and the reputation of doing good deeds.

The Coat of Arms can only be used by activated members of Gamma Sigma Sigma. Members-in-Training do not wear or display the Coat of Arms, unless it appears on a National Publication.

Ideals and Purpose:

Gamma Sigma Sigma is based on the IDEALS of Friendship, Service and Equality

The PURPOSE of Gamma Sigma Sigma shall be to assemble college and university students in the spirit of service to humanity and to develop friendship among students of all races and creeds.

The sorority's MOTTO is "Unity in Service"

The MISSION of Gamma Sigma Sigma is "Gamma Sigma Sigma promotes a lifelong commitment to service and diversity, in an environment of unity and equality, while creating opportunities for growth."

Symbol Meanings and Uses:

Gamma Sigma Sigma has multiple symbols which are incorporated into insignia or jewelry.

The COLORS of Gamma Sigma Sigma are MAROON, symbolizing service, and WHITE, symbolizing friendship and equality. These colors can be found on the Member-in-Training Pin, the membership pin and the Coat of Arms.

The colors are of primary importance in the design of the Member-in-Training Pin, and the points of the Member-in-Training Pin represent the ideals of Gamma Sigma Sigma.  The apex stands for service and the base points symbolize the foundation of friendship and equality.

Symbols representing Gamma Sigma Sigma are significant to the design of the official Membership Pin.  The triangle background signifies the foundation of equality and friendship, leading up to the point representing service. The shield containing the Greek letters, Gamma Sigma Sigma, indicate the protection of membership in Gamma Sigma Sigma. The symbols are the STAFF for service, the WHITE ROSE for friendship and the Greek letter OMICRON for equality.

The official FLOWER is the White Rose.

Contrary to popular belief, the National Mascot of Gamma Sigma Sigma is not a penguin!  In fact, we have no official National Mascot. Several chapters, however, have adopted the penguin as a chapter mascot.

Verse I:

Strongest of bonds uniting the world
For service and sisterhood we strive.
We pledge now all our might
And friendship's healing light
To keep this truth alive.

Chorus:

Gamma Sigma Sigma let
Our tributes echo far,
So that all who bear your colors may rejoice in your fame,
So that all who hear our voices Look for Service in your name.

Verse 2:

Dear Gamma Sig, we're faithful to you
For service we work so constantly.
For college and our land
We pledge the helping hand
Of our sorority.

Chorus:

Gamma Sigma Sigma let
Our tributes echo far,
So that all who bear your colors may rejoice in your fame,

So that all who hear our voices Look for Service in your name.
