Welcome to The Central New England Alumni Chapter of Gamma Sigma Sigma National Service Sorority
CNEAC members: (front: Patti Spears, Jenn Spears, Mike Saul; back: Jo Charest, Pat Saul, Karen Votils). Not shown: MJ DiNatale, Nancy School) CNEAC meets in the heart of New England - usually alternating between southwestern NH and southeastern VT, though we are flexible depending on the location of our members. The Central New England Alumni Chapter has been active throughout the past four years, and plans to continue this trend into the future. On an ongoing basis, we collect can tabs for recycling to benefit the Shriners, Box Tops for Education to benefit local schools, and cancelled postage stamps in an interchapter effort with the Empire Alumni Chapter (benefits veterans). Although our membership currently lives in a total of four states,
we are able to make individual efforts which combine to fulfill a larger
project. One example of this is our chapter's community food project, which
allows members to work in food banks and soup kitchens that are local to
them. With the new opportunities for projects benefiting people overseas, CNEAC adopted a quarterly Care Package for the Troops project, where we collected and shipped care packages to a GSS member in Iraq for distribution to the troops. Our last package sent also contained toys for orphaned children (see pic right). In October, 2004, four CNEAC members traveled to Portland, Maine for the American Diabetes Association Walk. The weather was brisk, but the day was a fun and busy one. Shown below, Jenn Spears and Pat Saul blow up balloons for the walk.
The holiday season offered up a smorgasbord of service opportunities. In November, members continued a new tradition of cooking
up and serving a complete Thanksgiving dinner to residents of an assisted
living home, while in December, the Spears family teamed up as bell ringers
for the Salvation Army (see pic below; Jenn left, Patty far right).
Other projects within the last year have included LOTS of animal rescue work, a bakeless bake sale for violence prevention, fundraising/donations for a number of organizations, promotion of arts programs in the community, making personal items bags for women prisoners, special olympics, volunteering for several non-profits, tutoring kids, and a bowl-a-thon for a local organization. We hosted the District 3 Spirit Day in
Chester, VT in May, helping to make Sojourn Bears (group pic below). We're gearing up for a number of
walk-a-thons, the Relay for Life, a yard sale to benefit animal rescue, and
more, as we continue our regularly scheduled projects! Contact us at CNEAC@gammasigmasigma.org - we're always looking for new members and interchapter project opportunities!
